Wow What a Difference. We have Owned our 2006 Taurus for the Past 5 yrs. and it has been Great until we started to get this squeal from under the hood. We replaced the belt, and the idler pully, and it still squealed for weeks driving us Insane until we had this belt tensioner replaced and WOW what a difference. The part fit Perfect, and our Taurus is Quiet again. FINALLY! It's Enjoyable to Drive Again. Thank You Advance Auto of West Haverstraw N.Y.

Old unit with 130k miles seemed smooth yet, but pulley/roller was out of line with the belt. A tech told me that the pivot wears out which causes the arm to wear sideways which makes the belt chirp. The clearance to the fan is tight, which makes removal a bit annoying.

I thought it was the pully but after replacing the pully only the chirping came back. It was the tensioner body halves metal on metal rubbing and chirping as the two metal parts wore and came in contact. It was easy to replace, remove the belt, take wheel off, remove bottom tensioner bolt from underside 10mm wrench and the top bolts from the top.

Direct fit and replacement for my 3.8L 1998 Windstar. The job went smooth and fast. Was well pleased my store had this in stock too! (1)Released serpentine belt with and angled bar behind the tensioner arm, (2) removed bolt from tensioner with 18mm wrench and pipe for leverage, (3) Pulled old tensioner out, had to twist and turn because of tight quarters, (4) Wiggled new one in and bolted it on, (5) Replaced belt and done!

On the 1996 Windstar there is very little clearance between the tensioner pulley and the fender chassis. You can not even use a serpentine tool with a shallow socket. The original Motorcraft bolt head is tall and extends a half an inch out from the pulley to allow access by a wrench in order to install the belt. The Dayco replacement bolt has shallow bolt head which does not extend out or above the pulley and can not be accessed to rotate tensioner inorder to install the belt. Could not swap bolts because Dayco is also smaller in diameter. Had to return the unit and order Motorcraft replacement on line.
