Worked as it should. The noise from the old one was from the decoupler mounted to the front of the alternator. Tough job installing it on a 2008 Dodge Caliber but a couple of good YouTube videos helped. It took about 4 hours to do for this DIY.

First of all, I think the decoupling alternator pulley is a flawed design in an attempt to solve other issues . . . gas mileage improvement and serpentine belt life. To have a pulley fail when there is nothing wrong with the alternator is a problem, especially when the alternator is not easily removable. That being said, Advance's remanufactured unit is a good value, considering the lifetime warrranty relieves me from paying for the part next time. The roar, whine, clicking of the worn pulley was instantly eliminated with the installation of this alternator. Yes, at 80,000 I could have removed the alternator, replaced just the pulley, but then there would be another alternator removal in probably another 30,000 miles or so. This was the best route in my opinion. The alternator works great and I don't need to think about it again for many years. Water pump next?
