I recently replaced my timing chains, cam phasers and oil pump in my 5.4 3 valve Ford to prevent the well known phaser failure before it started. Though my original water pump had no issues I decided to replace it since I was already gonna have the timing cover removed. I purchased this water pump online (order#116060822) and picked it up in the store on 3-3-2020. The process was easy and straightforward picking up in the store. At home the pump appeared just as good as the hundreds of other pumps i have installed from advanced over the years, it of course included the o ring and assembly was a breeze. First few weeks were great and the truck performed flawlessly however After driving the truck less than 1,000 miles the pump shaft catastrophically failed shearing in half from apparent fatigue on 6-7-2020. When the pump broke it sent the clutch and fan assembly hurling into the radiator and fan shroud. All total my cost to repair with $115 tow bill, fan shroud, fan and new radiator will be close to $500. Do yourself a favor-examine the shaft in the photos on this website and note the difference in size of the motorcraft pump shaft vs the carquest brand in the parts catalog. Looking at my photos you can see the pump that failed is a cheaply made piece with a smaller diameter ductile impeller shaft that has been case hardened. Don't let an extra $20 in parts cost you $500 like me. If its not broke- buy your parts to fix it somewhere else. Ill be returning it to the store- will post an update after that experience, my hope is they will stand behind the parts they sell and the collateral damage they have caused.
