My 1996 Lincoln Town Car had an oil leak within the first 4 months after purchasing the car. I couldn't find out why the oil level was dropping down by 2 quarts every 200 miles until I looked under and noticed some oil/sludge seeping onto the pitman arm/inner tie rod, right near the oil filter. I did some searching and found out it was the filter housing gasket, which is a common issue with the Ford Modular Engine family. All it took was driving the car on ramps and 2.5 hrs of draining the oil and coolant and unbolting the filter housing from the engine block. The oil leak stopped after reassembling and topping off with 5 quarts of 5W-20 engine oil and 13 quarts of 50/50 antifreeze.

If your 4.6L is leaking make sure you replace this gasket first In addition you need: oil filter, Teflon tape, antifreeze Tools: bucket for antifreeze, pail for oil, 10mm socket, ratchet, (2) 6" extensions, and a universal Took less than a hour but you will have to drain the antifreeze and remove the oil filter. You do not have to remove the water hose on top of the housing, if you remove the oil pressure sensor make sure you use Teflon tape on the threads when you reassemble
Fit my crown vic. No leak, so far so good.
