Longs story short, don't risk frying your expensive electronics in your car with a lower quality alternator. Step up to the Bosch unit. It's a great alternator at a good price. Details below. After having a charging issue with my 2000 Corvette I had the battery checked and it was faulty. After replacing the battery I was still having charing issues. I bought one of these alternators and it did not correct this charging problem and I started getting a "Charging System Fault" message on the Driver Info Center. I had them test the alternator and it tested OK. I cleaned up all of the grounds that I had access to and it would then charge the system but only after it was initially reved to about 2300 RPM. Exchanged the alternator. Same issue. Took it to a trusted shop and they said that although it would output current it was not within spec. There were large fluctuations in output and it wasn't responding correctly to the correct input voltages on the control link per the GM diagnostic procedure.

I know from past experience (unfortunately) that getting a replacement alternator for a C5 Corvette with Auto-Trans is luck-of-the-draw at best. Most remanufactured alternators advertised for C5 Corvettes are simply not compatible and throw PCM Codes and Charge Fault Codes on the DIC. This one was no exception. Alternator looked and fit great with the right decoupler installed, but started throwing codes immediately. I went through the same thing 6 years ago with O-Reileys and one of three worked; however the first one I ordered back then from Advance worked perfectly (and still works). Did not get "lucky" this time around. They really need to find a way to test these for Corvettes before advertising compatibility!
