    I'll echo what "GI Jim" said. Original plastic mechanism got brittle and broke at the worst time, when I had a load of construction debris to shovel out of the pickup box. The mangled original was tricky to remove, but this new part of METAL, NOT PLASTIC, went in very easily. I balked at the price, but am now happy to have a tailgate that works again, with a 15 minute repair. One suggestion: include a couple 10 cent nuts. The originals were badly rusted and could have broken the bolts.

    The original handle is made to fail. Engineering a plastic part that is exposed to so much torque on a regular basis is ridiculous. The metal handle is not nearly as stylish, but appears to be much more functional than the original.

    PRICE WAS RIGHT, IN STOCK, HANDLE MATCHED, BUT THE ASSEMBLY TO OPERATE THE LEVERS IS CHEAP, WEAK AND WOULD REQUIRE MODIFICATIONS OF THE LEVER RODS AND CONNECTIONS. I THOUGHT ABOUT DRILLING OUT THE RIVETS TO THE HANDLE AND REATTACHING TO THE ORIGINAL ASSEMBLY, WHICH WAS STILL IN BETTER SHAPE AND STRONGER THAN THE NEW. I ENDED UP BUYING A HANDLE "ONLY" FROM THE LOCAL DEALER FOR THE SAME PRICE, AND IT WAS A PERFECT FIT, UNLIKE "THE EXACT FIT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. IT'S GOING BACK.
