Purchased a Lares re-manufactured steering box for a 1995 GMC K1500 (Lares part# 1417) the replacement box had more slop than the original. I contacted Lares and customer service rep I spoke with was rude and unprofessional.

Read the reviews on the other brands decided to go with the Lares, Lifetime Replacement, I certaily hope I will not have to replace the units anytime soon. This unit replaced a leaking unit in my plow truck, Hopefully it will hold up to the demands of the job.

Big improvement over the original gear box (vehicle has 152,000 miles). Note the shop manual says to jack up the front of the vehicle, turn to far left, add fluid, then turn from full left to full right 20 times BEFORE turning on the engine. Separating the Pitman Arm from the relay rod is a challenge because the relay rod is round and the forks on the puller have nothing to grab on to. I put a steel hanger (2) around the relay rod on each side of the Pitman Arm connection, with bolts through the hangers. This allowed the forks on the puller to hook on to the bolts and pop the relay rod loose. This gear box is a good value for the price.

I have been through 2 of these on my 97 Chevy K1500. Both failed in the same way by leaking at the pittman arm seal. I was able to get a warranty exchange on the first one, and now the replacement is leaking a year later. Power steering pump and lines were new at time of install.

I was such a disappointment ,it has slack, even after lil adjustment, you can see it move couple inches before rest steering moves!

Steering is extremely tight actually feels like power assist steering. Once vehicle is moving its ok but parking is a chore.
