First, clamp whole strut in a vice and compress spring. Remove old shock. Put in new shock, then use good vice grips to clamp the bottom end of the coil spring to its correct seat position. Otherwise, as you back off the compressors the spring will try to rotate out of position. Clamping it where it belongs completely solved this, but I had to recompress the first one when I discovered that the spring was being torqued out of position while unscrewing the nuts on the compressor.

I bought this for my son's 98 Toyota Corolla. It was a perfect match to the original. Easy to swap the springs and place back on to the car.

On my toyota corolla I replaced the front struts, lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, rotors, and brake pads on both sides all in an afternoon....use of an impact wrench would have made the job easier; I purchased a length of pipe to get the leverage needed on my half inch wrench to break the 19mm nuts loose.

Became defective after about 4 weeks of normal driving. Sounded like something was loose and would make a rattle sound on bumps. Also checked the resistence of the two front struts by pushung down on the right and left fenders. The left strut in question has significant less resistance.

This is a great ride improvement since the car is well over 10 years old. The ride is smoother, the car stops quicker and it seems like it is a more quite ride.
