I had the same problem with the welding slag. I took a Dremel and tapered grinding bit and fixed that issue. Next was the water heater exchange tube (the small tube). It was in the wrong place and snapped the temp sensor when the housing was installed. I had to cut the straps with a cutting wheel, heat the tube and smack it with a hammer to bend it into place. That I have the ability to do the extra work was a benefit. I would, however, spend the extra money and buy the part from Ford if I were not able to perform the needed fixes. Good luck.

I had read a poor review of this product and was a little concerned that it may not fit properly, but the price was right so I thought I would give it a try. The water outlet was in stock at my local Advance auto parts store and is only 10 minutes from my house. The water outlet pipe had a good finish and fit well. The original one was badly rusted and weakened and broke while replacing a faulty coolant temperature sensor for the gauge. If you are replacing the pipe I would also recommend a thermostat, coolant, and a coolant temp sender for the gauge. It has been on the vehicle for a while now and has functioned perfectly.

After 370,000 miles the old 2.3 water neck rusted through so I ordered this one from advance.upon initial inspection I saw that welding spatter eliminated the possability of thermostat insertion. After grinding away welding spatter and trying to insert thermostat, found the seal ring to be mis-aligned so badly there still was no way to insert the thermostat properly.[...] this part was scrap metal before it was ever boxed and shipped.Going to Ford dealer on monday.
