Used it to replace old one

I purchased this product for my son's '97 Cutlass Supreme. To say that I was disappointed when I opened the box would be quite an understatement. The tapped hole (the part that threads onto the tie rod) was not bored straight into the casting... it actually wobbled severely when threading it on. The poly bag containing the small parts was absent. I had to supply the cotter pin and grease fitting. Furthermore, I had to reuse my old tie rod lock nut and the castellated nut. To add insult to injury, the male threads (the part that mates with the steering knuckle) were buggered up; I had to run a thread die over it to clean it up. Now, in defense of Advance Auto Parts, I'm certain that had I marched the part back to the store, they would have corrected it. However, not having the luxury of returning it (it was after hours and the car had to be on the road first thing the next morning), I made do with what was there. I believe that this was a reject that made it past Moog QA. I also suspect that someone else purchased this part before me and returned it to the store because of this defect... but not before installing it and damaging the afore-mentioned threads and losing the small parts. Evidently, store personnel restocked it for my eventual purchase. I suppose I should have had a gander of the contents before leaving the store, but who would think a brand new part from a respected manufacturer would be in such a condition? I will withold checking "yes" or "no" (would I recomment this to a friend). However, I will say that I am still a believer in the quality of Moog parts and I will use them in the future. I will, though be certain to inspect the product before purchase. I'm required to select at least one star... if I had my way, I would rate it a 0 out of 5.
