Ordered the module online, paid for it and drove 20 miles one way to pick it up. Opened the box at the counter and it was empty. Salesman said no big deal we'll order another...told him forget it I already spent $10 in gas for nothing. Website said it was in stock!

CAUTION!!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! The packet of grease included with this part is dielectric grease, not a thermal compound!!!! YOU MUST INSTALL THIS WITH FRESH THERMAL COMPOUND!!! On the internet, many people report that this part fails with in a short period of time after they install. The failure is due to the confusion over the included packet of grease and the instructions. The instructions and original manufacture call for the use of a thermal transfer compound to be spread on the bottom, metal side, of this part before being installed into the distributor. The design requires that the heat generated by the module be transferred to the distributor housing to help keep it cool, turning the distributor housing into a heat sink for the module. The Thermal Compound allows the transfer of the heat to occur as designed. This is the same way computers cool their processor. The instructions included lead one to believe that the packet of grease included with this module is the thermal compound that's needed but it's not. The included compound is simply dielectric grease, which is designed to prevent corrosion of electrical connections without interfering with the ability of the power/signal to go through the grease. If you use the included dielectric grease instead of the required thermal compound, this part will not last nearly as long as it was designed too. SO, when you install this part make sure you pick up a packet of thermal compound. I am not sure if Advance Auto Parts carries it, but I couldn't find it in my local store or on the website. I did find three versions of thermal compound at a popular nation wide electronics chain retail store but I can't not disclose the retailers name due to the policies for reviews here. I would highly recommend that you pick up a small tube of "Ceramique" thermal compound for this part prior to installing. It costs about $5.00 at the above mentioned retailer and will provide enough compound for more than one install. By the way, it appears that all of the other retailers out there seem to be doing the same thing with their HEI modules that are being made overseas like this unit. Do not think for a second that you will avoid this problem by going somewhere else because you will not until the manufactures catch on and correct the situation.
