The alternator on your car's engine is what keeps the battery charged and provides power to the electrical system and ignition while the engine's running. Without a properly functioning alternator, your engine would run strictly on battery power which would deplete the battery within a few minutes. Signs of a failing alternator can include a battery that's quickly exhausted, dim or flickering headlights, difficulty in starting, or an illuminated warning light.
