Gear Plugs are a little too large, making it very difficult to install them in the regulator/motor.
I was finally able to get all three of them in, thanks to another set of hands to hold two while i pressed in the third plug. Durability remains to be seen. While the official Ford parts cost more at the dealer ... it might be worth it to avoid the hassle.

The product is very affordable for a semi-easy do-it-yourself job. I wish the plugs were metal so they would not ever wear out, but I am no designer nor mechanic & being plastic may serve a purpose. I found an instructional video online to repair the window motor using these parts. The repair was simple, even for a novice, and the parts were exactly what I needed.

Exactly what I needed to fix my window motors on my 1996 Ford Explorer. The windows werent going down or up just clicking and not moving. It took a while to figure out how to get the regulator out without removing and/or breaking the glass, but once I had it out of the door panel, replacement and re-installation was a BREEZE! I can't believe dealerships and mechanics want to replace the entire unit for big bucks when replacing the bushings is all that is needed! I fixed my window for under $10 and would have spent probably $200 if I took it in somewhere....

For my 88 cougar I thought I was going to have to spend [$] to replace my window motor. When I took the motor apart and found that these 3 "buttons" "spacers" ?? whatever you want to call them was the only thing between me being able to roll down my window or NOT I was excited to find that Advance had them so cheaply. Took a little time but well worth the effort.

If you take your motor out and remove the black cover to reveal a lot of tanish plastic bits and pieces that looks like it could be hardened grease, and there are vacant areas in the plastic gear below the aluminum gear this and some grease are likely all you will fix your motor. Carefully remove the tiny snap ring from on top of the gear and pull the aluminum gear off of the shaft. Clean all of that old broken plastic and grease out of the plastic gear and housing, pack new grease into the plastic gear and place a small bit on the indents aluminum gear. Place these plastic "wheels" into the grease on the aluminum gear and press the entire unit onto the shaft down into the plastic gear and replace the cover. This entire process takes about 5 minutes after you get the motor out of the door, (that's easy too, but you will need instructions on where to drill to get to the third bolt).
This is the least expensive way to fix your lift motor and takes very little time to do.

I have a 95 Ford Explorer that both driver and passenger sides have window issues. They will not roll up or down the window at all even though the motors are trying too. Sounds like the gears are not catching. Now with a little assist you can roll them up and down but its a constaint assist. Like I said both motors work just seems like alot of slack in the mechanism somewhere. I ran across this item and thought it might be the answer to my problem. I have a 2001 Buick Le Sabre. When I bought the car my front passenger window worked but now when I try to roll it down it wont go. You can hear it try to roll down but nothing happens. I have a 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva. All four of the windows will go down but they will only go up a little bit then they will stop moving. After I turn the vehicle off and come back to restart it, they will go up a little more. How do you disassemble the gear box to install these plugs? The cap was off when I took the door panel off, regulator is fine and motor runs. Both power door windows in my 1989 Oldsmobile Toronado go down only about one third of the way, the make a "machine gun" tat-tat-tat-tat noise and won't go down any further. They will go back up, but at the top of the track they make the same noise if you hold the up button. It may just the gear but could be the motor. The best way to tell is take the door panel off and look for the gear. If the gear is stripped then replace the gear. If the gear is fine then replace the motor.Answered on 5/25/2010 by Kevin from AAP
