Replacing old thermostat, bought this gasket and silicone as well as O-ring. After removing housing, found that previous (factory) installation had only used O-ring, no gasket or silicone. I decided to follow that example in installing replacement, and used O-ring only, returning gasket and silicone to store. Seems to be working fine so far, no leaks.

Comments about Permatex Water Pump And Thermostat RTV Silicone Gasket:
I no longer use paper gaskets for waterpumps, thermostat covers, or anything that comes into contact with radiator fluids. This stuff has worked 100% of the time I have used it.
For proper application you must make sure all old gasket material is removed and cleaned with a wire brush or other abrasive scrubber. Make sure all oil/coolant is free from the gasket surface too. I use rubbing alcohol and clean paper towels for the final surface clean. Apply a thin 1/16'' on both mating surfaces and allow to dry for at least a few hours or overnight if you can. Wear disposible gloves for application for easy cleanup.

Comments about Permatex Water Pump And Thermostat RTV Silicone Gasket:
This is a good quality product but the tube isn't your standard "toothpaste" size tube... It's more like a small tube of superglue. Would be great if it came with an applicator nozzle.

Comments about Permatex Water Pump And Thermostat RTV Silicone Gasket:
I used this to hold the gaskets in place during installation of both a water pump and thermostat. It provided an extra layer of sealing around the gaskets and bolt heads. It is easy to dispense and clean up.

Comments about Permatex Water Pump And Thermostat RTV Silicone Gasket:
I purchased this to use when installing a new water pump in my vehicle, but was told by a car buff that "Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket® Hi-Temp Adhesive Sealant" was better. So I returned this RTV and used the spray-a-gasket instead. It's a few dollars more but well worth it!!!!!

can i put this on the leak of my water pump without replacing the whole water pump?2 answers
A:
probably shouldn't. If a water pump starts to leak, there's likely something internal that's breaking down - bushing/bearing/seal of some kind. Usually, you'll notice a leak out of the bottom drain hole - don't plug that hole, it's supposed to be open.CUSTOMER CARE
A:

Most RTV like this one take time to cure completely. I highly recommend allowing it cure completely before you begin driving your vehicle again.Q:
Do I need this AND the formed gasket when replacing my thermostat, or do I just need the gasket?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
You should be able to just use the gasket, but using a small bead of this should help as well.
