Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Universal Fit C.V. Joint Boot Kit Inner up to 3.58 Inch Diameter:

I installed this inner CV boot on my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo last summer. I bought this one because it's flexible and can be use with the CV boot installer (don't have to remove the shaft off the vehicle). The installation was quick and easy. However, after a little over a year later, the boot already started to crack and tear. Now I have to do it all over again.Should have spent a little more effort and get a regular boot instead.

If your CV axle is not completely round (but has 3 sides that are slightly indented) This will NOT work. The instructions state to cut off the top of the old boot, put it on the CV and then place this over the whole thing. NO WAY.

                  A:

A boot failure is a bad one for any CV joint because it dooms the joint to premature failure. A split, cracked, loose or torn boot will throw grease, draining the joint of its vital supply of lubricant. Sooner or later the joint will run dry which is not a good thing for metal-to-metal surfaces that must withstand high pressure loads and constant friction. A boot that doesn't seal can also allow outside contaminants, such as road splash and dirt, to enter the joint and wreak havoc on its precision machined and polished surfaces. If the boot problem isn't discovered almost immediately, joint failure will usually follow within a few thousand miles.

This is not a direct replacement part. If your vehicle has an inner joint smaller than 3.58" it will work.

In my past experiences, I have never seen a CV boot that is held to the transmission. The only time that I have seen them used is with CV axles and they are used to protect and cover the CV axle.

Does this CV joint fit the inner Tie-Rod ends on 92 Honda Civic? I see it is designed to be universal, so am i correct in assuming that it will work both left and right inner joints?

                  A:

This is not a CV joint. It is only the boot that covers the CV joint ends. Yes, this should work on both left and right inner joints.
