Q:
Does 51074 hitch fit inside frame or out side of frame?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
The installation instruction for Reese Trailer Hitches, Class III (Part# 51074) is given below. On 2007 & earlier trucks the bumper brackets are on the outside of the truck frame. On 2008 & newer trucks the bumper brackets are inside the truck frame. Remove the (2) bolts per side attaching bumper brackets to frame. It helps to tape the 5/8” thick blocks supplied in place to the side of the frame or bumper brackets as shown above before raising hitch in to place. Install (2) new M14 bolts supplied per side as shown above through hitch, blocks and frame and loosely tighten. Fishwire 7/16” carriage bolts and blocks through truck frame in to holes in truck frame that align with slots in hitch. On 2007 & older trucks you can fishwire from end of truck frame. On 2008 & newer trucks there is an access slot on outside of frame. Note! Insert 1/2” flat washers supplied as needed between hitch and bottom of truck frame as shown above, both sides. This is done to take up space created by existing weld on bottom of all truck frames & existing flat washer holding bumper bracket on newer trucks. Torque all (4) M14 bolts with torque wrench to 115 Lb.-Ft. (156 N*M). Torque both 7/16” bolts with torque wrench to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M).
