I have a 2000 Monte Carlo ss with a 3.8 v-6...I have a power surge between 1700 -2200 RPM , If I get past that RPM range it runs fine or if I accelerate hard it runs fine also. I have put a new Mass Air Flow Sensor and a new Map sensor in along with plugs , wires and fuel filter and it still does it , any ideas would be great.1 answer

The throttle position sensor may be the problem. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.Q:

I have a 1996 Buick regal 3.8 cc V8 engine. It idles high even in the summer upon start up and can take up to 30 miles before it idles down. The only way to idle down is to turn the engine off and restart. It may take up to 3 tries to accomplish this. In the winter it is worse. Would a faulty throttle position sensor cause this.1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Possibly; however, with out the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer.Q:
96 Camaro 3.8 at times it misses and cuts out and runs very bad when giving the car any gas or taking off or trying to accelerate. Scan showed a code of 102 (MAF). Replaced (MAF). Still runs bad!!! STill shows code of 102. Could it be the TPI and show a code for MAF. Or be the EGR and show a code for MAF. Had different car once that run just like this and it was the EGR.1 answer

can the tps be faulty without the check engine light coming on while making your rpms go crazy and idle high1 answer

Yes it could cause your RPM to rise and not throw a check engine light code.Q:
would this cause the vehicle to idle at high rpms on its own if the old tps is faulty1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Yes it could idle at high RPMs if the sensor is faulty.Q:
WHAT DOES THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR DO? ARE WHAT DOES IT CONTROL ON ENGINE?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
A throttle position sensor (TPS) is a sensor used to monitor the position of the throttle in an internal combustion engine. The sensor is usually located on the butterfly spindle so that it can directly monitor the position of the throttle valve butterfly. The sensor is usually a potentiometer, and therefore provides a variable resistance dependent upon the position of the valve (and hence throttle position). The sensor signal is used by the engine control unit (ECU) as an input to its control system. The ignition timing and fuel injection timing (and potentially other parameters) are altered depending upon the position of the throttle, and also depending on the rate of change of that position.
