Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 (1 qt.)

Part No. 98W573 Warranty
Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS is a supreme-performance, synthetic, multipurpose SAE 75W-90 automotive gear lubricant that's designed to meet the performance requirements of modern passenger vehicles in a wide range of operating conditions, including limited-slip applications as well as deliver outstanding power transfer performance. Compared to conventional hypoid gear lubricants, Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricants LS 75W-90 performs exceptionally over a wide range of temperatures. Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 achieves this through a proprietary formulation that delivers optimized viscosity-temperature properties and a high level of inherent formulation stability to protect against thermal and oxidative degradation, wear, corrosion and viscosity loss associated with premature shearing. It also can be used in extended service and for aiding in fuel economy.

Product Features:
  • Meets the most severe API Service MT-1 and GL-5 EP gear oil service classification
  • Greater film strength at higher operating temperatures, reduced fluid friction and low-temperature application down to -50°C
  • Outstanding protection against low-speed/high-torque wear and high-speed scoring
  • Compatible with typical automotive seals and gaskets
  • Not recommended for automatic, manual or semiautomatic transmissions for which engine oil or automatic transmission fluids are recommended
  • Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 is recommended for use in modern high-performance automobiles like SUVs, Vans and light-duty trucks that require API GL-5 and MT-1 level performance

Changed to Mobil LS1 in my 2006 Tundra 4WD Limited slip (LS) about 8 months ago. After about 3-5k miles I started getting a chattering noise when turning sharp. Thought it was the front end, could not find anything wrong. Transmission maybe??? So I had the trans flushed at the Toyo dealer.(120k miles on truck). Could not be my rearend...I have Mobil 1. Changed over to Lucus 80W-90 standard gear oil with 1/3 of a bottle of the KW LS additive. My truck drives perfect again and turns are very smooth. Can't believe it took me 20k miles to figure out this product is all hype. The oil was still very clear though when I drained it. Only positive thing I can think of?

Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 (1 qt.) offers superior differential gear and transmission lubrication. I had my 1998 Toyota E153 manual transmission completely rebuilt 75,000 miles ago and I've used Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 gear oil ever since. Happiness is having silky smooth shifting and the occasional power shifting street induced incidences without experiencing any transmission issues or problems.

You would have to buy a friction modifier to use it in a limited slip differential. Royal Purple is far more expensive but at least you don't have to go to a dealer to get the modifier.

This product is the world second best. This oil can be used not only in limited slip but also in conventional differentials. Exxon Mobil don't make non-LS Mobil 1 gear oil any more because this can replace them.

What is the world best product? Mobil Delvac 75W90 is the best. It has higher flash point than Mobil 1 LS 75W90. I hope advance auto parts stock the product.

Product was easy to use. Was used on a Silverado pickup differential maintenance. If the bottle design was changed a little to allow for the last quarter amount to be added, it would help in the installation. But overall, it was a breeze.

                          • Q:

I have a 2003 Sentra Spec-V. The Nissan service manual specifies 75W-85 GL-4 oil in the transmission. I have read elsewhere that GL-5 oils can potentially be harmful to the transmission if the manufacturer doesn't specify it for a GL-5 oil, but GL-4 seems to be possible to find on your site anywhere near the required viscosity. Will this product work in my vehicle, and if not, what will?

Sorry, this Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 (1 qt.) - part# 98W573 is not compatible with your 2006 Yamaha V-Star 650. GL-4 and GL-5 are standards set by the American Petroleum Institute for gear oils. GL-4 are intended for axles with spiral bevel and hypoid gears operating under moderate to severe conditions of speeds and loads. They are also suitable for sychronized manual transmissions when MT-1 gear oils are NOT recommended. GL-4 should be used in limited-slip differentials. The GL-4 generally indicates "Limited Slip" properties in the gear oil. GL-5 is indicated for high-speed/shock loads and low-speed/high-torque conditions. GL-5 also has multi-purpose or mild EP (extreme) properties too. GL-5 is often seen with the MT-1 designation too. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.

Multi weight lubricants have special additives that change the viscosity with temperature. 75W-90 means it acts like a 75 weight (relatively thinner) oil in cold climates which allows less cold operation friction and resistance to flow. As the oil warms up the additive package acts to prevent the normal thinning process, hence it acts like a true 90 weight oil when hot. Straight 90W gear oil is quite thick during cold weather, which not only causes increased drag but also it resists flow so it doesn't lubricate as well. So the W is very important.

Can I use this in a 2004 Silverado 2500 Quadrasteer? I read so many different things. Some say that the quadstreer takes a specific differential oil for the read. Is this true? My truck has 66,000 & I want to change rear fluid.

I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

I worked for 2 H-D dealers over a 6 year period. It is too thick for your Harley Davidson transmission. Stick with H-D Tranmission Fluid or H-D Synthetic Fluid. They work the best. Do not use gear oil.
