Comments about Autolite Single Platinum Spark Plug:

platinum plugs was what was in my vehicle. i checked one plug one day to see the shape they were in and found it burnt down somewhat and figured its time to replace them. after the job was done there were just two plugs with wider gap than desired. 109000 miles on them, guess they done their duty.

Comments about Autolite Single Platinum Spark Plug:

The gap was nowhere near consistent & since these plugs fit numerous applications be prepared to set them to your vehicle's recommendation. The staff at Advance was helpful in provideing that information for my Ford Ranger. It's funny this is the first 4 cylinder engine that I've seen require 8 plugs, of course one side of the engine had easy access but getting to the plugs on the left side along with routing the new spark plug wires was somewhat challenging. Overall the tune-up was a success and the truck drives better.

Minivan was hesitating... when i changed the plugs the three on the back side that I removed had a spark gap of 0.08... erroded and never changed... over 100K miles on van.

The owners manual spec. is somthing like 0.052-0.056. Plugs came from store with a 0.04 gap.
Remember to check this before you install/replace plugs.

I replaced my original plugs with these,(120,900 miles on them) when I finally got to the old ones in my car I found I was replacing the same plugs that came in the car when it was originally sold. Autolite's work like a dream. The car is running smoother than ever and I believe I will notice some mileage gains once I get a chance to drive it for a while.

                        A:

With reference to your inquiry on the Autolite Single Platinum Spark Plug - part# AP104, the only way a plug can blow out is if the threads are damaged/non existent, this usually happens from over tightening the plugs and is very easy to do on aluminium heads. Fitting a heli-coil is the way to go to fix it. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis. For any further assistance, please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Where is my $16.00 on $2.00 rebate per plug? It is now 1/26/2013 I sent it in back on 5/2012 and call autolite and never can get through for any status, I feel screwed and bad for my child, I think adavance should just pay me and have to deal with autolite corp. I will never buy autolite product again or fall for any rebate from advance,WHOM ever it concerns, that rebate money is from my disabled child that needed transportation repairs and that money back sooner then most of us,so they can advace a autlite up ther a#$!

                        A:

The Spark plug gap for a 1998 Ford Explorer AWD 5.0L is .054. The installation process is simple and you can replace it yourself. Locate the spark plug wires on the sides of the Explorer's engine. Pull back on the wires to reveal the spark plugs. Turn one spark plug wire by its boot, which is the larger piece at the end of the wire. Place the socket over the spark plug and unscrew it until the old spark plug is free from the cylinder well. Brush out the wire boot and cylinder well to remove any debris. Screw the new spark plug into the well until it is tight. Reconnect the wire and turn it halfway to the left and then all the way to the right to lock the wire on the spark plug in place. Only work with one spark plug at a time to avoid causing any damage to the engine of the Explorer.
