I have used rust conversion primers since the 1980's and until now every brand I used worked as it should. This time it was utter frustration.

1. It sprayed just awful. Very heavy and spitting. Impossible to apply a light coat.
2. It did not convert the rust scale all the way through.
3. It did not turn black uniformly on the bare metal. Rust conversion primers typically will cure to a nice satin black sheen.
4. It is not sandible. Could not feather the edges.
5. Absolutely terrible adhesion to the metal. After over-coating with primer for surface prep, I masked and applied top coat. When I removed the tape (the best 3M sells) the primer and rust conversion primer came off with the tape down to bare metal.
6. Reacts to primer and topcoat solvents creating a visible scalloped feather edge.

I had to sand the pieces back down to bare metal and start over. I had purchased two cans and both acted exactly as I described. Any other brand should be okay.

Thes Spray goes on clear; much like WD-40 doesn't show runs. Soakes into rust and dries like a black primer. Recommend a top Coat of anit Rust-Paint. Yes, it does work well. I sprayed it on the drive shaft, leaf springs and frame rails and spring shackles/hangers, rear-end and axel housing. 2-cans did cab to rear bumper (on Frame)... on pick-up.

I have used this stuff several times in 25 years. i have had many old cars (i own a slavage yard in Tampa FL) YES sometimes the propellant is weak.. if it is, return it or write to company and they are usually good to replace.
but otherwise..this stuff is amazing
100% turns, NOT covers, it turns RUST, deep rust, into a HARD solid metal black surface
You WILL feel like you have superpowers because if you ever heard the phrase, "rust never sleeps" you will forget that because with this rust is DEAD

It truly works. Rust is reformed and when painted over denies new rust for an acceptable period of time. As the other reviewer stated, the spray pattern could be better. I have not had any clogging issues and have been able to empty each can (of many) completely. I wish I owned stock in Duplicolor just for this product. I use it often and really like it!

This stuff is similar to Extend. When used as directed it does a great job of stopping rust. This product however sprays a narrow pattern that makes it hard to work with. Needs more propellant obviously. Overlapping the spray causes runs due to the lack of fanning. Some was left in can and nozzle clogged several times.
