Be aware that this pump has a pressed on pulley as opposed to #58-481 that has a bolt on pulley. You will need a 36mm open end wrench or similar. My largest was 1 1/4" and I ended up grinding it out to fit. That said, there is no graceful way to undo the fan bolt. I tried different belt loadings, sanding the pulley, strap wrench on the pulley. Finally ended up wrapping the pulley with adhesive sand paper (it still turned), then started stuffing work gloves into the belt. It took wedging 3 gloves into the belt to finally put enough tension on it so as to remove the fan nut. All downhill after that!
HTH!

Comments about Driveworks Remanufactured Water Pump:
The price was right and so far after 500 miles it is working like it should. Came with new gasket and O-ring and no leaks so far.

Comments about Driveworks Remanufactured Water Pump:
The gasket surface on my pump was uneven and needed to be filed flat. Other than that it bolted right on without a problem.I made my own tool to hold the pully from moving so that the fan could be unscrewed. The pully has holes in the front so that you can us a spanner wrench to hold it from spinning.

Comments about Driveworks Remanufactured Water Pump:
2003 Dodge Dakota 3.9L had a chirping noise after replacing belt, tensioner, and idler pulley. Old pump had free play in it but did not leak. Lesson #1 from replacement: keep belt on until large fan nut is loose. This keeps tension on water pump pulley while you rap on end of large crescent wrench to break loose nut. Lesson #2: Replace short bypass hose going into top of pump as part of water pump replacement. Not much room to work with to loosen/remove short bypass hose from pump without repositioning AC compressor. Remove seven screws holding compressor bracket to engine and reposition (with AC lines still attached) and there is plenty of room to get to water pump mating surface and bypass hose. Easy job once the right parts are removed and repositioned.

Comments about Driveworks Remanufactured Water Pump:
It was a good product. The seals fit nice and it went on clean. It was getting the old one off that was a pain. The clutch fan makes this thing real hard. i found that if you take the old one off first with the fan on, then jam a screw driver in the back of it the fan is far easier to get off. its going to take a large cresent wrench, lots of pb blast and possibly a torch. once you get it back together you will most likely need a new inlet tube, get one first its only like 10 bucks. make sure you connect the large raditor hose before you slip the shroud back on. makes putting it together way better. thats bout it, this job took me in my drive way like 8 to 9 hours. Good luck!

Q:
can a water pump be bad even if it doesn't make noise and isn't leaking? I thought my clutch fan was bad...but after the new one installed ...nothing has changed..temp keeps climbing...water pump or perhaps the thermostat stuck?? something tells me that the water just isn't moving in there...thanks!2 answers

I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.A:
I'd look into the thermostat being stuck first, its very easy to check. Just take the thermostat out and put it in a pan with water and heat the water up on the stove. If nothing happens then you have a bad thermostat. Your radiator might also have some blockage in it too. To check this, just run the vehicle and when it gets hot start feeling the radiato to see if it has hot and cold spots. If it has cold spots then the raditor is clogged cooling passages because there's no hot coolant flowing through the radiator. Your cooling system may also have an air pocket in it. If this is the case, then you need to get the air out by opening the system at its highest point, or there's a funnel with tube that connects to where the radiator cap is that rasies the highest point in the system allowing the air to escape at the highest point.Q:

It could be another pulley that is causing the noise.Q:
what kind of noise does the water pump make if its bad?2 answers
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
It may make a light whining noise but usually there is no noise. Usually, you will notice movement in the pulley and leaking from the pump.A:
I currently have a water pump going out on my 99 Dodge Dakota. It is not leaking, but the bearings are shot. The pulley has play in it, which means the fan has lots of movement. You can hear the bearings rattling/grinding and making the whining/chirping noises you'd expect to hear from anything with bad bearings. I have just recently started to faintly smell antifreeze, but have yet to see any.Q:
the pully is makeing a lot of sound fan belt comeing a part do i need to change the water pump or the pully1 answer
