There are five relays in the fuse box next to my battery. All five relays are alike. It didn't seem to be listed in the AAP computer as compatible with my '93 Jeep Wrangler Sahara so the clerk came outside the store with me, pulled the dead relay (horn)and cross-referenced it. They had two in stock and I bought both so I'd have a spare. The clerk then came outside again and plugged the new relay in place, had me blow the horn, then closed and secured the hood. Thank you, Scotty. The relay works just fine.

This was indicated as the Starter Relay for a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant. It is not the correct part. To AAP's credit, both AllData and the Relay Cover reference the spot that this would plug in to as requiring, so it's not a "mistake" on AAP's part. Just confirm that your vehicle uses this exact part before ordering.

        Comments about BWD Relay:

Works fine with 1996 Ford Explorer and some of our other vehicles. It works with multiple relay replacements. You can also cross-reference relay manufacturers to see which relays can be replaced. Recommend keeping the old ones that work as replacements for an emergency. These also work for my snow plow application on my truck.

                                  A:

This part BWD Relay, Part No. R3177 is a multi-function relay. 1. Check for brake-light switch. If the contacts stick, the switch may continue supplying power to the lights, though it is released. To test the brake-light switch for staying on, remove the switch and test for continuity between the terminals. If there is still continuity, when the switch is fully depressed, the switch is bad. 2. Check whether switch is not slipped out of position, ie; which increases the space between the plunger and the pedal. With the pedal released, the brake-light switch should be pushed to its full off position. Pressing the pedal should cause the switch to move. If the plunger of the switch does not contact the pedal, check for an adjustment. 3. Check brake booster (rare cases it may fail) ie; the pedal will not rise enough to contact the switch. Pull up on the brake pedal and see if the lights go out, switch misalignment or pedal position error is the likely cause. 4. Check for any wire shorted to power. Unplug the brake-light switch and if the lights stay on, a short circuit is the case.
