The Rack and Pinion gear set is a simple mechanism that enables you to efficiently steer your car. You’ll find the pinion gear at the end of the steering shaft. Once the steering wheel turns, this gear spins and moves the rack, which turns the wheels. The shafts on which the rack and pinion are attached meet OEM specifications; premium-quality bearings help to deliver a smoother steering experience. Came with new o-rings, and sealed up. Car handles better than with the original, leaky rack.
Clean the threads and add a touch of oil to them and it will not cross thread easily. Start the threads before you torque the frame bolts. Then tighten them down. 17mm wrench.

Cast aluminum housing had TRW cast into it - it was a rebuilt TRW unit. By design (Toyota's fault), hydraulic lines are VERY easy to cross thread; doing this will ruin the steering gear assy.

I ordered this for a 1995 Toyota Avalon. Advance web site says PN RP2339 is the correct part (this one). The FENCO site says this part is for a 97-01 Camry and that RP2241 is the correct one. My part had a tag with the number 2366 hand written on it, which is for a 4 cylinder Camry. Final outcome is that the mount holes are one half inch off and it cannot be mounted.

installation is a bit involved but thats just the nature of this part. Once installed the part functioned well.
