Can't know if it's defective till you install and drive. 3 hours to remove AND install new one! With one person! At least in a grand am.

how difficult is this to change1 answer

On the few vehicles that I have replaced these on, it really was not that hard. They required a hammer, and a socket and ratchet set. You just need to remove the few bolts holding it to the car, remove the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles, and then re-install everything. I highly recommend consulting a mechanic who can look at your car first just to make sure there is not anything special about your car and once the repairs are made get a four wheel alignment just to make sure nothing was thrown off in measurements.
