I originally bought this O2 sensor for a Ford Contour but sold that car before replacing it. My 1997 Explorer needed one so I used this one. This part has a lot of applications and fit both cars. I used it to replace the Drivers front which had failed. It was easy to replace and now the dreaded "Check Engine" light is finally off in my 97 Explorer. If the threads on the exhaust are buggered up you will need an M18x1.5 tap to clean them up before installing the new sensor. Advance Auto also sells the special socket to remove/install this item.

Comments about Bosch Premium Oxygen Sensor:
Make sure you pull the old one first to verify the cable length! The cable lenght on these sensors are short!!!. I had to return one for my 99 Town Car and get a NTK (OEM) because the cable was to short. This added a extra 1 1/2 hour to my repair time! This means that I have a Bosch & NTK combination, not 2 of the same manufacturer

My Mountaineer has had issues with the Oxygen sensors. First only 1 went bad but than after a trip to Florida, the other 3 went out. So, now that I have replaced all of them, thanks to the curtious staff at Advance, my Baby is almost back to normal.

A:
With reference to this Bosch Premium Oxygen Sensor - part# 15716, the P0171 code means it is bank 1, which is the side that has cylinder #1.
