It beats buying paper filters. Yes, it requires cleaning & retreatment with oil to trap dirt. You do need to wait until it dries before reappling the oil.

I have used these before and all seemed well until cleaning and an oil recharge. You need to be ready to clean your MAF sensor especially if it is very close to the airbox. I somewhat agree with K&N that the oil doesn't destroy the sensors but they can get oily which will seriously impact driveability until cleaned! There is some very high temp at which the oil will simply burn once in the engine so it doesnt seem to be a long term issue except your airbox will never reach this "burn off" temp.

Comments about K&N Panel Type Cotton Gauze Air Filter:

Once again, another K&N. New truck, new air filter. It's a no brainer to buy an air filter with a million mile warranty. I live in Florida with alot of sand, only clean these once a year. When you sell one of your vehicles, it peaks peoples interest when they know it has a K&N in it, a sign that you take care of your car.

I love this filter it is reuseable so i never haft to worry about replacing my air filter again. Excellent quality and brand. I would strongly recommend this for trucks, suvs, and any other large vehicle. The cost is even reasonable and worth it. Buy this and i promise you cant go wrong. Stop fooling with those filter that only last until ur next oil this is an investment that pays for itself. Try one and you will see the difference.

I have a 2012 Chevy 1500 Silverado with a 4.8 v8 engine with only 700 miles on it when I bought the K&N air filter hoping to get better mileage per gallon of fuel. After 500 miles of driving with the new K&N air filter I have found that I am only seeing a little increase in my mileage of less than a half mile per gallon over the stock air filter. The K&N air filter fit in the filter compartment just like the stock air filter. I did not experience any real power change with the K&N filter over the stock filter.

You can go on the K&N website to view the test that they have done on this matter. They also requested Failed MAFS be sent to them to determine cause of failure out of the 100's tested none were determined to be caused by the oil in the filter. They did a test in which they actually dipped a MAFS into the oil they use on the filters and the Sensor still passed. They will also fight a dealership on your behalf if the dealership tries to deny your warranty. Check it: http://www.knfilters.com/maf/massair.htm

It is best that you contact your dealer of this situation. Cause some will say that it has to be a Motorcraft (Ford) or an AC Delco (GM). Dealerships can be very picky and use this against you.

                          • A:

When you clean this filter, use ther pump spray bottle and spray it on the intake side of the air filter (side facing down into air box). Wait for 5 minutes after spraying to soak for better cleaning. Then use a small amount of water pressure from a hose and spray thru the opposite side of where you sprayed the cleaner. Make sure you spray the same path as the cleats (RIBS) for better results. Depending on the weather conditions, you can let it dry outside in the sun for about one to two hours. Or you can use a hair dryer to dry it quicker after you have shakin it to make sure all of the water is out of the cleats. After drying, spray small amount of your oil on the intake side while following the cleats. Let this dry about 30 minutes. Hold your filter up to bright light to make sure that you have an even coat of spray. If not, lightly spray that spot. If not, reinstall your filter in the breather box. On some truck models you have to reset the air fillter monitor gage.

Depending on your driving conditions and what shape that your motor is in, yes, this can increase your MPG's from low as 2 to 6 or 7 at most. But , there are other things that can even help you more. Like proper maintanance, tire pressure, wheel balance and alignment and other things that are mentioned in your owners manual. You take care of your vehicle and your vehicle will take you many miles down the road.
