I was getting an oil light on the dash. I read that these sensors were often the problem, so I bought this and replaced mine. Same issue. So, I took it to a shop and spent over $100. They checked the oil pressure and it was fine and they saw that this new sensor was leaking oil into the sensor, so they replaced it and the van is working fine now. So, bad part out of the box.

Worked just like it should. The one on the car was cracked and spraying oil everywhere. Glad this was a cheap quick fix!

Comments about BWD Oil Pressure Switch (Light):

Removing replacing the oil pressure switch is a 5-minute job once you have the special socket(a 26mm deep socket might work; 1 and 1-1/16" deep sockets don't) and you learn how to disconnect the wiring harness connector from the switch.

The following procedure is best performed from underneath the vehicle. The switch is located next to the oil filter on the engine.

                        1) Pull the red locking tab from the large green connector with needle nose pliers

                        2) Push the green latch on the green connector, and pull/wiggle the connector off the switch.

                        3) Remove the old switch with the special socket and ratchet, noting the thread tightness. The switch base is not flush with the engine as it has a tapered pipe thread.

                        4) Carefully thread the new switch in by hand to prevent cross-threading, leaving the teflon tape intact.

                        5) Tighten the switch with the special socket and ratchet to original the orientation/torque. Do not over-tighten.

                        6) Reattach the green connector to the switch making sure the latch catches, and reinsert the red locking tab.

The switch was a perfect match in every way to the old switch. The socket used to remove it was the same socket to install it. The threads on the switch that thread into the engine came with it's own thread sealer, without the need to wrap it with teflon sealing tape. That saved me from having to make a separate trip to purchase teflon tape to wrap the threads to install this switch. After installation of the switch, there were no oil leaks, and the engine light never flickered again. This made my day.

Need to install this switch on a 1999 Sebring Convertible 2.5. Are there any tricks for separating the electrical connector from the switch?

I slid the red locking pin in the connector side over approximately 1/4". I still can not pull the connector from the switch. Is there something else I have to do or push out of the way for the two pieces to separate?

I have a 2002 neon se and the oil light comes on about once or twice a week, but only at idle. I checked the oil level and its full. If I turn the car off and it cools down I can drive it for several more days before it comes on again, but the light cuts off and randomly cuts on. If this is the problem I will need to know where it is located.

Do you just disconnect the old switch, remove the old switch, install new switch and reconnect wiring? Any chance of oil leaking? Majorly? Just a little? Any other steps to this?

The oil pressure switch (BWD Oil Pressure Switch (Light) - Part No. S4178) on a 2004 Dodge Stratus V6 is located on the back side of the engine block, facing towards the firewall; just slightly towards the passenger side of center, about 4 inches above the oil pan. Easiest access is to remove the passenger side wheel liner (approx 7 push pins) and use air wrachet on the three heat shield bolts. Then remove pressure switch with either open end wrench or the specialty socket. When installing new switch, be sure not to damage the harness connector, apply liquid teflon to the threads, completely dry motor block threads from oil and tighten to 10-12 foot pounds. Reconnect harness, reinstall heat shield and wheel liner and you are good to go.
