I was skeptical about the plastic gasket that came with the unit, but I am pleased to say that those fears were unfounded. It is longer than the OEM plug but made of similar durable material.
One of the threads in my oil pan drain port were stripped at the dealership by an overzealous mech and I had the option to buy a self tapping plug, or replace the oil pan. I opted to try a new plug before pulling the trigger on one of the noted options. One month in and it's still containing the leak and hopefully will hold for the next oil change.
