If your transmission has slight slips and the fluid is off color and gritty this might be your problem. If anything this fixed my torque converter shutter and overdrive engagement issue. The car practically shifts like I just bought it new off the dealership. This fluid is ford approved and uses good additives in its oil. I was going to buy the dex/merc stuff but someone suggested to go with what Ford recommends for their transmissions. If I used the universal dex/merc stuff I would end up with tight shifts. But this was worth every buck and the best part of it is I got it on sale from advance auto. If you know you need a transmission oil change and been hesitant about it because of what you've been told, News for you it's safe to do so with an AODE or 4R70W transmission because it's all electronic IMO, not hydraulic like in AOD's or C4's. You won't regret doing so and plus it will extend the life of your transmission and it'll be thanking you in better shifts and no torque converter shutter. Last, do NOT add any additives like L*cas transmission fix or friction modifiers they will damage your valve body or cause sticky valves. Just this ALONE does a wonderful job. PS. Torque converter shutter/shudders feel like you're running over bolder rocks between shifts.

Bait and switch, didn't receive Castrol!
Can't say anything about the product because I was the victim of a bait and switch scam... I paid for Castrol, but was given Advance name brand fluid instead.

Great ATF, especially if you can buy it on sale. Use it in my Ford Focus for great shifting.

Take the pan down only and my taurus consumed 6 quarts. Only hard part is you don't know when to stop adding the fluid. Need to check the height of the fluid time to time.

Comments about Castrol Mercon V Automatic Transmission Fluid:
Castrol is the only product I would trust in the AX4S trans. this product has saved me so much money, It runs the trans cooler on long trips better shiffiting, I had add half a bottle of trans slip and 7 ots of fluid and beat the track record of these transmissions, Orgianal trans no major fixes

Comments about Castrol Mercon V Automatic Transmission Fluid:
One of the things us "Old-timers" learned was to sniff the transmission oil for any tell-tale burnt smells. I don't know how that will happen today...right out of the freshly opened bottle; the smell was horrid. I worked for years with the Castrol Industrial people and know they have an outstanding line of products...I just don't get why this oil smells so badly. Other than that the oil seems to perform well in my Ford Explorer...shifting is fine and smooth. It should be noted that there is about 50% Castrol and 50% Ford fluid in the transmission after I did a pan drop, filter, and fluid job. It bears repeating...UGH...the smell. I knocked off a star because of the inability to "sniff" out a problem.

Comments about Castrol Mercon V Automatic Transmission Fluid:
I recently had my transmission (5R55E) rebuilt, and I don't think the shop put Mercon V Fluid in it. I was having some shifting problems and ordered a remanufactured valve body. I started pricing fluid and was a bit put off by how expensive the Mercon V was. I did my due diligence, and discovered that Castrol Mercon V was more than sufficient as a replacement fluid for my transmission type, and after finding an online coupon, I got it at a VERY reasonable price. After replacing my valve body and refilling the trans, I have had no more problems. I really can't say that the trans is shifting better because of the fluid, or the valve body, or both. But all in all, Castrol Mercon V is a high quality fluid exceeding Ford OEM Specifications, and with the online coupon code, I couldn't beat the price. I will definately be using it again at my next transmission service.

Comments about Castrol Mercon V Automatic Transmission Fluid:
My car wasn't shifting hard, but I had gone over the manufacturer's mileage interval for changing the fluid. After replacing the fluid with this Merc V, the car shifted super smooth.
Let's hope it stays that way. I'm always a bit leery about replacing tranny fluid...
