A:
The leaf spring shackle actually attaches the rear end of the leaf spring to the frame of the vehicle. Actually a very easy swap. Using a floor jack under the rear bumper centered up. Lift vehicle only high enough to take the weight off the shackles and remove the bolts. Replace with new shackle and tighten bolts. It sustains the weight of the vehicle, provides comfort, absorbs the tension, supports the load in a vehicle. The shackle and bracket are hard to replace if rusty or been on vehicle for a long while. You will need to replace the nudging in the leafspring if it doesn't come out easy. You will need to torch off bolts, or cut off them. You will need muscle if not torching them off as well as whatever parts replacing. If the bracket that is welded to the bed and in good shape just leave it but, if you decided to replace it use heavy duty bolts. The shackle will need to cut out and the nudging need to be pressed in. It hard to do on vehicle. It easier with leafspring off of vehicle but either way it won't be easy if you haven't done it before or not familiar with cars. You need all the right tools and a good pair of gloves, ear & eye protection, no its not easy but can be done with time and some muscle. Good luck.Answered on 9/3/2011 by j.prize from Jersy. NY
