Comments about BWD Ignition Starter Switch:
Customer came to me with a complaint of the ignition key would not turn. After a few minutes of diagnosis it was decided that the key cylinder was bad.
I removed the trim bezel, radio, heater control panel and center console to gain access to the shift interlock cable.
I removed the key cylinder, ignition switch and cable. due to the key cylinder not being able to turn I needed to replace both the cylinder and switch. After exchanging the neccesary parts the assembly was reinstalled in reverse of the removale procedure and a key relearn was performed per the included instructions.

Comments about BWD Ignition Starter Switch:
Fit perfectly in 2001 Olds Alero. The old switch quit working, and I lost my blower motor, power windows, cruise, and rear defogger. After troubleshooting the problem I came across the ignition switch. Very easy to replace, took less than an hour. (I do have a mechanical background however) The only problem was the lock tab for the shifter cable would not lock into the new switch without having to shave a little plastic off the new switch so the lock tab would catch. Otherwise it fit perfectly. And the price was right especially with online discount coupons with in-store pick up. Beat the competition by $50-$60.

Comments about BWD Ignition Starter Switch:
The people at the store were very helpful and friendly. That was nice after the first switch failed in just a week or so. The 2nd is over 3 mos old now.

Comments about BWD Ignition Starter Switch:
There was a small burr on the edge of the hole for the park cable tab. Had to scrape it off to install, which was hard to do after connecting all the wire bundles.

Symptoms of a Bad Ignition Switch: Vehicle Doesn't Start: Since the ignition switch is what prompts the engine to start, the surest symptom of a problematic ignition switch is when the vehicle is unable to start. If the car either does not start at all, or takes several tries to start, it may be the symptom of a faulty or bad ignition switch. However, this could also be a symptom of other problems, such as a fading battery. If the vehicle sputters and tries to come on but fails, or comes on only partially, it is most likely the battery. If the vehicle simply doesn't start at all, it is most likely the ignition switch. Headlights and Dashboard Lights Go On: If the headlights and dashboard lights go on but the vehicle doesn’t start, this is another clear sign of a bad ignition switch. Since it is the battery and not the ignition switch that turns on the headlights, if the engine won't turn on but the headlights and dashboard lights will, your problem is most likely caused by an ignition switch. Heating Up: Another symptom of a bad ignition switch occurs when the switch gets short circuited and heats up. If the switch is impossible to touch with the hands, it is a sign that the ignition switch is facing a problem rooted in the vehicle’s electrical and wiring system. The ignition switch is connected to a series of high-resistance wires. Any of the terminals connecting these can heat up. This results in arcing of the terminal(s), which further heats up to the extent that it melts the bakelite insulating base. From there, the wiring directly next to the ignition switch can heat up. When this happens, the vehicle jerks and doesn’t start despite repeated turning of the switch. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.Q:
