Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions HVA/C Air Door Actuator:
Replaced mine exactly. I had a manual temperature control. Take out center consol them remove Dash bracket by gas pedal and one air duct. Then remove a few lower dash screws to give you wiggle room and it is changeable. Took about 2 hours.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions HVA/C Air Door Actuator:
Purchased to repair the heater/AC on my 2004 Ford Explorer. Dealer wanted $1500 to repair the "clicking sound" when the temperature control was adjusted. This is a common problem with Ford Explorers. Dealer claimed the repair takes over 8 hours and is "major surgery" and that the whole dash would have to be removed. Nonsense!
I ordered the product online, drove to my local Advance Auto Parts location, picked up my order, and did all of the work necessary to complete the repair in less than 4 hours total.
The repair is not simple, but if you pay attention when you are removing the console and taking apart the dash to access the Blend Door Actuator it is easy to get everything back together again and working properly. The actual process of swapping the Actuator is quick and easy, it's getting access to the location of the Actuator that is time consuming. There are many websites with step-by-step instructions and pictures of how to do this repair yourself. A few basic, common tools like 7mm & 8mm sockets are required but no fancy mechanics tools are needed. If you can change a spark plug, you can install this product.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions HVA/C Air Door Actuator:
This is "THE" replacement for the cheap OEM Heater Blend Door Actuator that FORD installed on the Explorer. The build quaility appears to be much better that the junk OEM part. Let's hope it last longer, it is not an easy job to replace. -MJP

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions HVA/C Air Door Actuator:
This was installed on a 2004 Explorer with non-climate control a/c and heat. For example, you have knobs to turn instead of a set temperature on the dash. If you have automatic a/c and heat then you want Part No. 604-207. These are the main (dash vents), not the rear auxiliary unit.
I popped this control unit open before I bought it to see if there is a quality difference. It had larger gears and even one extra gear to reduce stress. This is a MUCH better design than the original OEM part. The OEM part stripped out one small gear and rendered it useless.
It's been 1 year since I installed it and it's still working just fine. Hope this review clears up any confusion when buying on-line.

I have investigated the trouble i am having with my heat in my vehicle. Even with the fan off, if I turn my dial to hot, I hear a clicking under my dash, and with the fan on, it only blows cold air. My air conditioner works perfectly, which has led me to believe that this is the part I need. Can you confirm or deny please? I have a friend that will put it in for me as I cannot afford the labor at a shop, but I need to know that I am purchasing the right thing for him. Thank you!1 answer
