One of the Dorman coolant elbows that I installed less than a year ago failed . I contacted Dorman and was told that they have been updated and to look for the number 11300 or higher on one of the elbows in the package. The elbows in the packages at my local Advance Auto Part had lower numbers so I did not buy them. I then purchased the elbows fromthe dealer . The updated Dorman elbows might be OK if you can find them. However, it makes me wonder since they put a defective product on the shelves and didn't do anything about it until the users complained.

Comments about Dorman - Help Heater Hose Connectors -Elbows with O-Ring Seals - Plastic:
The O rings fell apart and after installed the elbows leaked coolant worst than before. Had to take the O rings off the old parts and put them on the new parts to even get it to work. Plastic is thin and easy to break. I would only use these in an emergency situation.

Comments about Dorman - Help Heater Hose Connectors -Elbows with O-Ring Seals - Plastic:
I installed a set of these a little over a year ago. (see review 1/4/2012) This past month I started to smell coolant leaking after shutting off the motor. The car has never been ran hot and the fluid level has always been kept topped off. I removed the bracket that these go into and I noticed the short elbow on the small end was leaking again. All of the smaller o-rings are completely flat and the fluid was leaking past the outer surface of the one mentioned above. The larger o-ring is also not round but not as bad as the smaller ones.
The elbows are in good shape but the o-rings are not correct for this application. I'm replacing them Hi-Temp Viton which can handle up to 450*F and are oil and chemical resistant.

Comments about Dorman - Help Heater Hose Connectors -Elbows with O-Ring Seals - Plastic:
The Delco parts that came on my car had 115k before the top one started leaking. Delco parts from dealer was [$]. these were [$].. so I went the cheap route. 16 monthes and 10k miles later the top one had a catastrophic failure on my way home from work. When I removed it, both ends were broken off, and the body was busted with a large section missing. Needless to say I went back to OEM from the dealer. Remember the old.."You get what you pay for"? This is the part they were talking about. Only use if you can't get better. But unless you want to risk you or your family being stuck beside the road, replace them as soon as possible!

Cheap product. Only lasted about a year and had to replace them again. Plastic o ring collars broke off. Do yourself a favor and buy the factory parts. I tried these in a pinch but wish I would have used OEM instead.

Comments about Dorman - Help Heater Hose Connectors -Elbows with O-Ring Seals - Plastic:
Should be replaced if you are replacing a water pump.
Also, make sure the holes that these press into have all the old pieces removed. Clean the sealing surface really good and use a good silicone o-ring lube on the o-rings prior to installing the parts. Old material left behind and dry o-rings can cause the o-rings to pinch and cause them to leak again.

How do you install a Heater Hose Fitting on a 1996 Buick Regal Custom V-6 3.8 v-6 engine?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Please follow the these instructions when installing this Dorman - Help Heater Hose Connectors -Elbows with O-Ring Seals - Plastic (Part No. 47065) on your 1996 Buick Regal Custom 3.8L V6. Lube up the o rings with vasoline, this works best and will not harm the seals or cause them not to seal. You have to remove the tensioner assembly from, then on the bracket (which could be part of the belt tensioner). There should be about 4 bolts that hold this bracket that this 90 degree tube fits into, remove these bolts, the alternator may have to be removed as well depending on whether it is in the way or not, some of these 3.8 series 2 engines vary with alternator bolt ups. After you remove the four bolts that hold the bracket, the bracket with the 90 degree will be loose. Below this plastic 90 degree is an aluminium elbow that is part of this bracket. This aluminium elbow has an o-ring as well. You have to wiggle and pull this bracket assembly that the plastic elbow is attached to. You have to wiggle and pull so it will release the lower aluminium elbow from the timing cover, then it should slide off and the 90 degree can be replaced. The reinstallation is the reverse of this and will go back together easier as you will have vasoline on the o-ring seals. CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Disconnect negative battery terminal. Remove serpentine belt. Remove alternator. You don't need to remove the wiring. Just move it out of the way. Drain the radiator. Remove the belt tensioner assembly. Dorman 47065 is the part number which includes the fitting for the intake manifold and the water pump housing. Some antifreeze on the o rings or silicone grease will help installing the new elbows. How do you take out the old one and install the new one? I have a 1998 Chevy Lumina LTZ 3.8L V6. Thanks you.1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Normally the Heater Hose Elbow connector is replaced only when there is a leak at the joints. You just break the existing elbow and replace it with a new one. Taking the hoses of the tensioner assembly makes it easy to get the broken pieces of elbow out of it. When changing the coolant elbow between the lower intake and tensioner it is also recommended to flush the coolant along with replacing the thermostat. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.Q:

On your Buick Regal the top and bottom hvac heater hose fitting ( the little black plastic elbows) are positioned between the belt tensioner and the intake manifold.Q:
how do you install this part 470652 answers
A:
actually on belt tensioner. I disconet the battery. Next locate alternator on back right side of engine, start unplugging and plan to take alt off. Long bolt on bottom of alt actually holds belt tensioer belt must come off or at least loose. Tensioner with round pulley comes off. Plastic connector is in right side as well as into the plastic intake turn and wiggle tensioner to release end from plastic intake wd-40 helps this process plastic elbow will now be stuck out of tensioner spay as u hold in hands twist with chanel locks to unloosen stuck o-ring is a help as well as a pic ,sometimes due to heat from motor, piece becomes briddle and will break flush with tensioner a pick will help to remove the left over plastic in the hole. Remember to get old o-rings out or it will not seal should be two usually on old plastic elbow . thanks for listening hope this helps u!CUSTOMER CARE
