Manufacturer date January 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7L, plain single cab. Have to remove dash. Have to remove heater & evaporator core box from vehicle. Have to disconnect A.C. evaporator core lines!!! Means (new receiver/dryer) + having to have the a.c. evacuated & recharged with freon. Heater core slides out & in, from the firewall side of course, without having to take the main box apart, UNLESS antifreeze leaked into it. Take it apart to be cleaned good. This one is 6.5 inches on tube side & 10.5 inches deep. It is not supported properly when slid into the box, as it rests on the fin part of the core. The one that came in this truck is 8 inches tube to tube wide & 7.5 inches deep.

Have NO complaints about the heater core, but pulling the dashboard back resulted in my entire dash crumbling (typical dodge). Was not hard to replace, but took my time doing it.

I replaced my heater core while installing a new Evaporator Core. I suggest replacing them both at the same time since you don't want to do this job twice. It took me about 7 hours total.

Comments about Ready-Aire Heater Core:
So far I couldn't be happier. I did the heater core, evaporator, and all my coolant hoses at the same time, [...] In my experience with aftermarket heater cores and evaps you have to tweak the tubes sometimes to get them to fit, But not in the this case. It fit perfectly.

I installed one of these heater cores. I was shocked that the tubes had to rotate to make it fit. Do they need soldered once in place? Anyway I got it installed. It took a lot of labor. Well I am getting a antifreeze smell in the cab when it starts to heat up. I can find no evidence of a leak. I redid the heater hoses and replaced the radiator cap. I still get the smell. Do you have any ideas? I think the heater core I put in was bad. How do I know without ripping it out? I question the integrity of the rotating tubes.1 answer
