Check Vehicle Fit

Dirt and even rust can enter the fuel stream at any point along the long journey from refinery to your vehicle’s fuel tank. So, your fuel filter becomes the final line of defense against damaging contaminants getting into your vehicle. Clean fuel, free from dirt particles and rust, is essential for the smooth and efficient operation of your vehicle. A tiny grain of dirt can clog injectors, leading to erratic performance and poor gas mileage. Clean fuel increases gas mileage and improves engine performance - and with the fluctuating cost of gas these days, that’s really important!

  • Defense against damaging contaminants
  • Increases gas mileage
  • Improves engine performance

Just remember you get what you pay for. This filter lasted me about 2 years. That's darn good considering the gas you get when you have to buy the cheap stuff, due to high fuel costs. I have a mobile oil change business and we use Purolater on a regular basis. The leading filter in this catagory is CHEAPLY made, made of recycled cardboard on the inside, seen it.

I replaced this because the fuel pump had failed. The disadvantage to this product is trying to remove the old threaded line from the filter. In the state where I live with road salt causing corrosion it is very difficult to get the lines out of the old filters. The filter worked and made sure that there was clean fuel getting to the engine. Easy install once the lines come out and the clamping device is removed. Clearly marked for direction of fuel flow so it is difficult to install incorrectly. Seems to be a good product. I would recommend it to others and recommend changing it more often in climates where salt is used on the road so that the lines come out easier and with todays fuels it would probably help.

                  Comments about Purolator Fuel Filter:

Product works fine. My install was on a 95 Chevy Blazer. Remember to use a flare wrench, my fuel line was a 5/8" wrench, I used a crescent wrench for the fuel filter, it worked fine. If there is rust, use a penetrating fluid like PB blaster. The worst part was taking off the bolt which holds the filter support strap. That was not fun. It was a straight-forward replacement otherwise.

                      A:

Yes, fuel filters can be checked by blowing through it. If there is little resistance, the filter is still okay and does not need to be replaced. But if there's more than minimal resistance, the filter is dirty and should be replaced.
NOTE: Gasoline is poisonous, does not taste very good and may burn sensitive lips. So do not hold the filter to your mouth to blow through it. Instead, attach a short piece of clean rubber hose to the filter and then blow through the hose to test the filter.
