Comments about Fram Extra Guard Oil Filter:
I have used Fram oil filters in my automobile engines for decades. Driving each vehicle well over 100,000 miles. I HAVE NEVER HAD A OIL OR OIL FILTER RELEATED PROBLEM WITH WITH MY ENGINES. DONT BELIEVE THESE NEGATIVE THINGS BEING SAID ABOUT FRAM FILTERS, THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT TRUE. My current vehicle is a 1999 GMC Step Side, in mint condition, with 140,000 miles. Maybe if these people would take better care of their engines (regular oil changes, etc.) they wouldnt be having trouble. but dont blame it on the oil filter.

Comments about Fram Extra Guard Oil Filter:
marlin pretty much summed it up. shotty paper composite "anti-drainback" valves that deteriorate and cause dry starts, the worst possible thing you could do to an engine....

Comments about Fram Extra Guard Oil Filter:
Many people fall prey to Fram filters and their marketing. But please do not make the mistake of using a Fram Filter.
Fram oil filters use very low quality parts. The gaskets are very basic cardboard end caps that leak very easily. If you use this filter and have a noisy valve train at startup, the filter is likely the cause. The bypass valves are plastic and are sometimes not molded correctly, which allows them to leak when they should be closed. The backplate has smaller and fewer oil inlet holes, which may restrict flow.
Not only are they low quality and cause issues in some cars, but they are also not the cheapest filter. So save some money and get a better filter like Purolator, Wix, or any other oil filter not made by Fram/Honeywell.
