OEM replacment Coolant temperature sensor for the ECM, probably fits many applications. On a TBI Camaro this is the sensor in the intake manifold, not the fan switch or gauge sender. If the old one is faulty this will make a huge difference in performance, economy, and driveability.

This is all that was needed to tell my poor confused ECU that it was NOT freezing cold all the time. The only real effort involved in the installation was cleaning out the threads after removing the old one, which had been in there since the truck was new.

Easy to install, If you own a GM vehicle, make sure you buy AC Delco parts, I went with an off brand the first time and it didn't ordered this one through Advance Auto and it works like a charm!!

With reference to your inquiry on a bad coolant temperature sensor (ACDelco Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - Part No. 213-928) a faulty coolant sensor that always reads cold may cause the fuel control system to run rich, pollute and waste fuel. A coolant sensor that always reads hot may cause cold driveability problems such as stalling, hesitation and rough idle. However it will not cut off the fuel unlike the Oil pressure sensor. There are several ways to know if the coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning. If the sensor is bad it will trigger a trouble code and the check engine light in the dashboard will come on. You can retrieve the engine code and see if it is related to the coolant temperature sensor. Even if the engine control computer doesn't store a trouble code, there is another way to suspect a bad coolant temperature sensor : If your vehicle starts using more fuel than usual, starts having trouble starting when the engine reaches normal operating temperature or you notice black smoke coming out from the exhaust tail pipe, it is very likely that these symptoms are related to a bad coolant temperature sensor. You will want to check the engine's compression. Also, see if the coolant spurts out the coolant cap when you are cranking the engine. That would indicate a head or head gasket problem. Most likely the head gasket and/or the head is warped or cracked.
