Q:
I have a 1994 gmc Sierra k1500 with the 5.7l v8 lately it has been off and on idling rough. Sometimes when traveling at about 70 mph the truck will choke out for a second and then kick back up. Also it occasionally stumbles and cuts off going through like a neighborhood where the speed limit is slow. I just had the ECU replaced because one mechanic said that would fix it but it didn't change a thing. So they suggested getting a full diognosis which I did and they said they believe it's the egr valve, egr controller and gasket does this sound like this product will fix it?1 answer

I have a 1994 c1500 5.0....my truck runs fine untill it gets to operating temp. then from going from 50 plus mph down to 45 and less it seems to have a miss and sometimes it starts bucking...it has been doing this for a few months...the last few times at red lights...on take off you would have to floor it to make it go...this would last for about 15 secs....then it would take off like normal....then on take off it will have a miss till you get to 50mph plus....then it runs fine at that speed....could this be the EGR????2 answers
A:
it could be the EGR mine is doing the same they say if you start the truck an push in on the EGR an if it dies its good if it runs after itss bad i hope i helped you outCUSTOMER CARE
A:
This could possibly be the problem. However, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. We would suggest that you take your vehicle to a certified mechanic for further diagnosis.Q:

If the EGR valve is stuck open, it will essentially cause a vacuum leak, leading to inefficient combustion, rough idling, hesitation, and sometimes stalling in extreme cases. This is because the car cannot combust on carbon dioxide from the tailpipe — it needs atmospheric oxygen. If the combustion chamber is flooded with exhaust from an open EGR valve, it will not function properly. To check and see if the EGR valve is stuck open, have someone idle a parked vehicle with the brake on while you examine the plunger shaft to see if it is stuck open. The EGR valve can be clogged, and a simple cleaning of a EGR valve may solve the problem. If the problem is still there then replacement of the valve may be needed. Failure to repair or replace the EGR valve will not lead to a life threatening condition, although it will reduce the life of your car and increase the potential emissions. Especially in areas which require smog testing, an automobile with a malfunctioning EGR valve may not pass.Q:
I think the second port on the solenoid that has the filter use to go to the diverter valve on the smog pump that was removed on my vehicle. This is a 87 Chevy V10 with a 305. Doesn't this solenoid pull vacuum from the throttle body and supply vacuum to both ports therefore if second port is not connected or has a filter that it would cause a vacuum to drop going to the EGR valve? Seems that it would have to be plugged if not used. Thanks1 answer

A:
If throttle is been increased, ported vacuum starts to build and once the throttle is closed the vacuum is lost. This is been relied by EGR solenoid which is controlled by ECM and this would not cause a vacuum drop going to EGR valve.Q:

This product could fix your vehicle, but it is hard to diagnose a vehicle over the computer. I would suggest taking it to a mechanic.A:
Mine would idle rather well and then go into a spell and hardly idle. I pulled the hose off the egr valve and plugged it and it runs great. Before I plugged it, I could feel it sending vacuum, at idle, to the egr valve. That would open the egr and ruin the idle. The egr should NOT open at idle. Have been driving w/ the hose plugged but the check engine light comes on when going down the road. Will replace the egr vacuum solenoid and the problem should be cured. Looks like poor idle, driveability and just poor running can be traced to the egr valve and solenoid.Q:
do i suppose to leave the filter on the egr solenoid or remove it when i install1 answer

MY ENGINE WAS IDELING LOW AND SHUTTING DOUWN. I DISCONECTED THIS EGR SOL. AND PLUG IT UP AND IT RAN SMOOTHER. DOES THIS MEAN MY EGR SOL. IS BAD.1 answer

A:
Sounds like either the solenoid is bad or the egr is stuck open and bad. I recommend replacing both of the items.
