As a scientist and researcher, DEX-COOL® Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant by Prestone is a valuable product to maintain engine cooling and prevent heat damage. In older GM vehicles it is required and that sustains vehicle life. Therefore it is a great value. The concentrated version is then diluted 1:1 which offers significant savings and is simple to do. Pour half into empty coolant container and fill each
with clean fresh water. Presto, you have two (2)
Gallons of great PRESTONE coolant.
Dispose of one container properly when done and save one for the future.

I'm telling you for your own good. Switch to the green stuff.
The green is far superior. Yes, you can use it with your aluminum block engine. Yes, you will need to change it more often.
Problem is, when this Dexcool is exposed to oxygen, it coagulates and curdles. Literally, it turns into a disgusting, gunky mud. This is hard to move and creates a lot of pressure against gaskets, hoses, and your engine. Trust me. I have seen the effects on my own Grand Am.
I had to flush the radiator three times because my heater core was literally clogged, and the LIM/UIM gaskets were shot. Also, the DexCool coagulated and got stuck to the t-stat, and it stopped working. This stuff should be illegal, literally. There is nothing good about orange. It's cool, it's what everyone uses, but I use the green in my Pontiac GA '02. You will never catch me using this garbage in my car again. I saw the effects. I tore the engine down.

This product is a terrific OEM replacement/match/addition when not entirely draining your Dex-Cool GM vehicle. I prefer to purchase undiluted and mix myself with clean water. It is cheaper per ounce than paying for water that is essentially free. I do keep pre-diluted in the vehicle for emergencies/top-offs because you cannot guarantee clean water will always be available. This bottle is difficult to pour and requires a funnel to avoid excessive cleanup or environmental damage.

I have been using this product in my 2000 Grand Caravan with a 3.3 engine for 7 years. Three years ago I had to replace my second radiator with only 30,000 miles on it. The car at the time had about 97,000 on it. Recently I noticed a small leak but it isn't visible even under 14lbs of pressure. A mechanic told me that I shouldn't be using the Dex-Cool since it breaks down certain gaskets and seals in Chrysler products. Does anyone know for sure?
