Comments about BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor:

Replaced this sensor on my 1992 Saturn SL1 because the radiator fan would only come on when the AC was on. I put it off until I got caught in traffic one day and over heated and blew my radiator. After replacing my radiator this sensor was put on the short list and now I must say that I kick myself for not doing it sooner. Such a cheap and easy fix for a problems that can cost you hundreds. Fan now kicks on like it's supposed to and all is good again.

Easy to change, and fixed the high rpm that the car was experiencing at idle. Also has the teflon tape, or similar, already applied to threads so was a simple repair job.

this was a great fix for the cracked ECTS saturns a notorious for. I like the fact that they have sealant on the threads to prevent leaking coolant

                      A:

This BWD Coolant Temperature Sensor -(Part No. WT5029) is the sensor that sends the temperature readings to the Engine control unit and to temperature gauge on the dashboard in some vehicles. The part that I believe you are talking about is the heater control valve or the coolant temperature switch that opens and closes the heater control valve. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

                  • Q:

I've a '97 SL2 which wasn't producing heat unless I added collant every couple of days (I also had a major oil leak). The leak is now fixed, ... the thermostat changed and fresh coolant was put in. Great heat but my dashboard temp light keeps coming on. Since I'm getting heat, and assume it's no longer boiling out as there is still coolant in the resivoir, ... beside a blockage in the radiator would this part sause a problem if it was well past it's prime? I've never changed it and don't know if my mechanic ever did.

                      A:

Yes, the coolant temperature sensor should be the possible cause of the problem on your 1997 Saturn SL2. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.

Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
