Although you need to be a contortionist to get under the dash, taking out the old blower was relatively easy. The old difficulty was one of the mounting screws is located tightly against the firewall and made it difficult to loosen for removal. I had also replaced the fan switch resistor, which I would recommend you do if replacing the blower. The blower must be removed to replace the resistor anyway. For the price of either, I would replace both even if you only need to replace one or the other. I figure it took me about 15 minutes to remove, 20 minutes to replace both parts and another 15 - 20 minutes to tidy up under the dash and put tools away. So great to have heat and a defroster again. Got tired of looking through a peephole to drive.

One morning I had ice on my windshield so I turned my defrosters on by turning the fan switch dial. When I turned my fan dial from 1 - 5, nothing was working, no noise, no heat coming out of the vents, and worst of all, no defrosters and it is 34 degrees outside with ice on my windows. If you turn the fan switch dial and nothing works then you need to replace your heater blower. If your fan switch does work, but only on a couple different settings, like 3, 4, &5 but dial setting 1 and 2 doesn't work, then you need to replace the Heater Resistor Pack. If you need to replace the heater resistor pack, do yourself a huge favor and let a shop work on installing it. If you replace the blower motor, then you should be able to replace this yourself, but ask for a torx driver for the 3 screws you need to remove the blower unit. This unit is easy to install but is in a bad location inder the glove box. You must use the original heater hose that is attatched to the original blower motor. There is a wire connection that can be a pain to disconnect when taking the original unit out of the car, but if you have trouble, do not cut the wire. The install can take about 30 miniutes, but you will need a special torx driver to take the 3 screws out. This unit will hum on fan setting number one, but it can be annoying if your radio is off.If you plan to keep the car more than a few months, then I would suggest to spend more money and buy a different blower motor that is quiet.

Comments about Factory Air Blower Motor:
For the past few years, my A/C/heat would blow incredibly weak and would give off a startling high pitch hum. Installing was essentially easy. The only hard part was accessing the blower motor area. The only con is the there is a low hum when the air blows on the lowest setting. It's you cant hear it unless youre actually paying attention to it or if the radio is on. Other than that, my A/C/heat blows strong and better than ever.

Replaced the blower motor resistor, didn't fix the problem so the next step was the blower motor itself. Heater works perfect now.

1998 pontiac grand prix gt is there a difference dual zone controlled and manual climate control hvac blower motors.1 answer
A:
No difference, same motor fits either/or. Dual zone climate dash control is controlled with damper door being adjusted thru vacuum assist to give either more air flow or less air flow toward passenger. Fan motor turns same with selected speed but air flow is adjusted for either more or less air blowing on passenger, depending on how far closed/open the damper door is.Q:

Unplug electrical connector, remove 3 mounting screws, pull vent hose from duct and remove motor. To assembly check that squirrel fan is same size, (if not swap to fan from old motor). Mount gasket around base of fan housing, pull correct plug from new motor then take hose from old motor and insert into correct hole on new motor, (that hose is for dash control selecting recirculate). Insert motor back into and tighten screws, push hose end onto duct, connect elect plug.A:
