If you need one of these go with "Gates" They specialize in them as well as serpentine belts. You pay a little more, but you get what you pay for

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
I had a bad tensioner pulley that screeched constantly. I had a mehcanic replace it with this new item. It worked for 3 days and is now screeching worse than the 12 year old original that was on the vehicle. Very disappointed.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
I drive 500 to over 1,000 miles each week and depend on the vehicles I drive. Any part I replace has to stand the test of time/miles. So far this part solved the issue of a noise and was east to install. It takes only 10-15 mins.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:
the bold that came with the tensioner has a larger hex head, and 1" shorter than the original bold. I used the original bolt. Double check with AAP, it was the correct part for the 2000 safari van.

Q:
I have used two of these (thought first was defective) with two of the dayco poly rib belts, and the belts are stretching out to full tensioner extension within a few days. Then squeaks upon startup. What is the problem? The belts are the right size, having almost all of the tension left on the tensioner when installed. Both times the belt and tensioner were new. Vehicle has new alt, a/c compressor, water pump, and idler pulley as well. 98 chevy blazer.1 answer

first, can a bad tensioner pulley make the engine preform like it has an ignition problem? such as needing a tune up. Secondly, is the tensioner pulley supposed to move up and down when the engine is running1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
The belt tensioner is a crucial part of any engine. Its functions include tightening the engine belt and transferring power through pulleys from the serpentine belt to the alternator. It is responsible for generating the correct amounts of tension to allow the engine to run and drive its components. Belt tensioners lose their strength and efficiency over time, which can lead to an engine failure if the belts aren't replaced. It's helpful to know the signs that the tensioner is worn or needs replacement. The car battery light will light up when the belt tensioner is failing. The battery will begin to run down due to the fact that the belt is slowing down and slipping out of its compartment. In addition, the alternator will no longer turn fast enough to power the battery. One of the main signs that a belt tensioner needs replacement is the looseness of the belt. Listen for a fluttering" noise while driving or while the car is idling. This indicates the tensioner is too loose. Other noises such as squealing or whirling from the front of the engine mean the spring inside the tensioner is weakening. In this case, the belt tensioner needs to be replaced. Rust or corrosion can build up around the tensioner, as well as dirt and mud. Rust prevents the tensioner from spinning freely, which can cause further damage to the engine. Corrosion can occur in areas with a colder climate, and where roads are heavily salted during winter. Rust also tends to distribute into other parts of the engine, including the alternator. Any damage to the automatic tensioner pulley can cause damage to the belt tensioner due to the vibrations caused by the pulley. Physical damage to the pulley is an indication of extreme tension or physical interference. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.Q:
Can a bad belt tensioner drain your battery? When I drive it makes a noise and my battery goes dead. I have a new alternator and a new battery. My amp guage shows only 10 amps instead of 14. Its not holding a charge. My truck has 190,000 miles on it. Could it be the problem?1 answer

Yes the tensioner comes with the pulley.A:
Yes it does come with the pulley wheel & bearing. Buddaman there description of Light duty pertains to Heavy Equipment applications where the engine is spinning at a constant Hi-RPM. This product will perform just fine in our highway vehicles.
