Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:

The part is extremely simple and straight forward to replace and even more so if you pick up Advance Auto Parts' serpentine belt tool kit. (I recommend the one they have as part of their rental program.. it is only a few dollars more than the one in the tool section on the sales floor, has more sizes and useage options, and comes in its own case rather than loose!)

I have two concerns and one is the "light duty" designation on the part. I have a 1998 Ford Taurus with 267000 miles on it, so you know we really drive this car! I am just wondering how long "light duty" will last.

The second has to do with where the belt wear indicator is at after having installed this along with a new idler pulley and new belt. (and yes, I have the correct diameter pulleys in the correct places.) When I finished changing all the items and installed the belt, the indicator is not near the center where I am used to seeing one after replacement. However, everything is working fine, so I guess I'll just watch and wait.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:

Be advised. There are two versions. One with a plastic pulley and one with a metal pulley. The metal is closer to a direct OEM replacement and more durable. I have inatalled and replaced both. On many cars the part has to be manueveres out from below through the frame. Replacing this part has also stopped belt squeal for me on two separate vehicles.

Solid product (better than the replaced cheapo Ford OEM tensioner with its failed 8mm seized bolt). Tensioner is more durable and includes a 13mm mounting bolt which is a clean replacement. Recommend antiseize compound.

I replaced the part about 4 months ago and this past week the mounting pin broke off. The only thing I could think of is when I replaced it the bolt that it came with was about 1/2 an inch to long so I cut it down. What should I do when I put the new one in?

To get the proper torque specifications, it is best to refer to a repair manual for that certain vehicle such as Haynes repair manuals which can be purchased at your local Advance Auto Parts store.
