Installed the automatic belt tensioner about two weeks ago with no problem. Easy one bolt install. Works just fine, holds tension like it was designed to.

The position of the 3/8" connector for a ratchet/breaker bar which allows you to draw the tensioner back and install the belt, is in a different position than on the original. Once installed on my vehicle, the connector was too close to the strut tower to be useful. Returned to Advance and had to purchase another brand elsewhere.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:

After installing a few thousand tensioners I'll say that this is a typical belt tensioner installation job. It will be easier if you have the proper serp belt tools, but even without you should be able to do it. You must use the new bolt & washer to install the new unit.

My wife picked it up for me. When I opened it, it was missing the bolt and washer. I had to drive back to the store to get a new bolt ( provide for free from Advance )as the one they sold my wife was the only one in stock. Returned home to install and the square to insert the ratchet or breaker bar was a little big, as soon as I put pressure on it to adjust the belt, the metal rounded and the breaker bar slipped. Took an hour of using different pry bars etc. to finally get the belt on. I AM NOT looking forward to when the belt needs to be replaced. There is NO easy way to move the tensioner now that the square is not square. INSPECT at the store 1. the bolt is in the box and 2. check that the square for adusting is not to loose.

First off I found this part to be very similar to the original part that was removed. It was a direct fit and required no modification to install. It is easy to remove and replace once the serpentine belt is removed.

I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

If the belt is routed correctly and the tensioner is not getting it tight, then you most likely need a new tensioner.

The easiest way to describe how to replace a serpentine belt is by using the belt tensioner on the vehicle to loosen the belt so you can remove it. Once removed, start putting the new belt on according to the belt routing diagram and when you are ready to finish installing the belt, use the belt tensioner again to finish putting the belt on and to tighten the slack on the belt. This is just an easy way to describe how to do it. Depending the vehicle year, make, model and engine size, it may be different.
