Started hearing a whinning noise from the front of engine that started to get louder over time. Local shop said it was the alternator and wanted $400 to replace it, belts extra. Advance Auto had one for [$]. Did it myself in 90 minutes.Ordered online Wednesday night. Waiting for me the next morning at local store. No problem.Installation is easy:1. Disconnect battery2. Drain coolant from top of radiator and remove upper radiator hose (can't remove alternator unless hose is out of the way)3. Disconnect electrical connections to alternator4. Disconnect tensioner with 12 mm socket5. Remove 2 retaining bolts with 14 mm socket and remove alternatorSolved the whinning problem

I bought this altenator a year ago when mine went out on my altima, almost exactly one year later this one failed and left me on the side of the road. I take it back to advance auto and they replace it for free without any issues. Now the new (Second) one is installed and seems to be working, however it is making a pretty loud whining noise and has a burnt electrical smell. On top of that now my battery has gone bad will not maintain a charge. Dont want to say my battery is a result of the alternator but so far not impressed with this one. Headed back to Advance Auto tonight to have them test everything and share my concerns with them. Don't think I would recommend this brand of alternator, spend a litte more money and get a different one.
