This system does not properly align with strut in parallel. It will be twisted as you compress.
I recommend hook type compressor.

This tool did the job, but it's not the strongest one available and desn't quite have the reach it should. Took a couple attempts to get it to compress far enough to remove the springs off a strut. Ok if your only going to use it once, but plan on a little effort above a better tool.

This tool worked perfectly for compressing the springs on the MacPherson Struts so we could take them apart and change them. Because the tool clamps onto the spring with U-bolts, there is no chance of it slipping off. I had never disassembled a MacPherson Strut before this, so I wasn't sure which tool to get. I saw several that were more than twice the price of this one, but I ended up choosing this one because I saw it had good reviews. I am glad I chose this one, becuase it did the job perfectly and safely.

Spring compressors are a major safety issue. This particular model won't slip off the coil because of the threaded U bolts that hold it all in place. The design adds a little bit of bulk, but worked OK for the Accord I was fixing. Just took a little wiggling to get the strut off the car. The extra minute or two it takes to fasten this model is totally worth it because of the safety it provides. You NEVER want a spring compressor to slip off while you're working on a strut...it's very dangerous. This model will not slip off.

works well, takes time to set up, but it is very secure and safe and pretty hard to mess up such that it would hurt a person or machine. I question the long term durability but for [$] what can one expect these days. If you have a vehicle with very large diameter wire for the coils the u-bolts may not fit. Keep an eye to aligning them parallel to each other when installing, the u-bolt design is a plus in this respect such that you can lock the compressor in position.

No problems with this tool, grease the threads and it should last a long time. the u-bolt design is very safe.
Main rods are good sized.
