Will not work with Optima batteries

Comments about Schumacher SpeedCharger 100-Amp Battery Charger/Tester:

On the plus side, I found the XC-103 to be well made and durable. It was convenient, easy to use and worked well for standard batteries. However, it will not work with many AGM type batteries.

This unit has a setting for AGM batteries but the voltage output for this setting is up to 15.6v. Optima (and many other AGM) batteries require 14.6v or lower. Using the XC-103 to charge an Optima will cause it to boil. The vent will open to allow the pressure/gas to escape causing decreased battery life.

Neither the included documentation or manufacturers website listed the exact output voltage for each setting. If you're buying this for use with AGM type batt's check to make sure they will take a charge at 15.6v without damage.

Durability I cannot speak about as I have had the porduct for a very short amount of time but in that period, I have charged a completely depleted battery to fully charged in about 3 hrs. Charged 4 vehicles including 2 trucks, one of which is a diesel with two batteries and it just works as advertised.

Comments about Schumacher SpeedCharger 100-Amp Battery Charger/Tester:

It works just fine as the charger. I recharged several batteries with it and it's pretty versatile and convenient. Leads are cold when not connected - you can shorten them and nothing happens. When you attach the battery the charger will autodetect 6 or 12V. You have three charging modes: trickle, slow/small battery, fast. It also has three settings for all different kinds of the battery technologies (auto, golf cart, boat, deep discharge, gel, etc)

The "testing" capabilities are just the marketing bla-bla. What it is is just the voltmeter. Not even a load test. Charge percentage is the rough estimate too but who cares, just let it charge it full. If you need just a good charger for every occasion - this one is great.

Cons are - no cable management. Two flimsy brackets in the back is not what I would like to see cause cables unwind from them.
Another con is the noticeable loud 60Hz humming transformer noise. It's really loud when charging, and still there when there is no load or charge is complete and switched to the trickle charge. It'll be OK in the garage, but not in the house.

I previously searched for parts and found the website worthless. The operators of this site should look at their competition and learn how to provide info on products.

not only do they not provide needed information, they also fail to provide a photo. Apparently they do not have anyone capable of building a website to sell their products, which by the way, when I look for something and find a web like this one I dont hang around long, but go to some place that provides the necessary information for my purchases. Thanks.
