Do I need the 1604 or the 1630 for my 2000 Dodge Durango with the 5.9L motor?
Asked on 7/1/2010 by Chester from Natrona Heights Pa

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Neither. Although they show up when you search for parts for your vehicle, if it does not show the yellow box with the green check mark on the part page, then it does not fit your vehicle. Both of those part numbers are for Chevy engines. For your vehicle I recommend part #VS50419R.

This is a cork and rubber gasket with a steel core. It is the gasket that seats with the valve covers.

    • A:

Replace it with this gasket. You prolly have a leak from dry rot and keep tighting the screws/bolts. if you over torque the gasket it will leak. My suggestion is never use cork gaskets. Felpro should be slapped upside the head for ever making cork ones. what I do is tighten to snug then go 1/8 of a turn of the wrench for the final torque down. Or better yet, if it says in the manual go there. I used to have a problem over tightening bolts then I got a mini torque wrench, never had a problem since.

  • Q:

What is this gasket made of? Looking for a rubber coated steel gasket set.
    Asked on 1/26/2010 by Anonymous

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Gasket Material: Cork/Rubber with steel core
      Thickness (in): 0.313 in.
      Quantity: Sold as a pair.
Notes: Cork-Lam construction utilizes a metal core with a cork-rubber material chemically bonded to both sides.

      Counter blowout or high-vacuum conditions.
Certain engines, such as small block and big block Chevys, can produce high-vacuum or blowout conditions that can be big problems for many valve cover gaskets. Fel-Pro Performance CorkLam gaskets are designed to deal with those challenges. They have a metal core for extra strength, with a special cork-and-rubber compound bonded to both sides. This produces tough gaskets that can deal with problem engines, while also providing a little extra clearance between the valve cover and the valvetrain.
