Fixed cracked head causing overheating problems. Internal leak was losing a few ounces of coolant each day and introducing gases into coolant that required continual bleeding of system or overheating resulted. Once gasses bled after car started and warmed up, car would not overheat. White smoke on warm up that would go away after leaked coolant boiled off. Crack would allow coolant in cylinder when cool and open, but would expand into itself when hot and close. BlueDevil Company recommended removal of spark plug in damaged cylinder (required compression diagnostic to determine which and gas test for the coolant) to improve chances of repair--common advice seen online with mechanics, too. Carefully followed instructions on bottle, otherwise. Cylinder carbon purged when compression improved. Thick black smoke from tailpipe eventually went away after some driving. Seal has held for a week of driving. While I would recommend a proper headgasket and head replacement for a newer car, this has worked so far to repair an old car not worth the amount of the repair job, which would have been around $1100 for the head gasket replacement and a few hundred more for the head itself. Our goal is to give us time to save money for another car. We have read online from non-company sources that the seal can last anywhere from 3 months to 3-1/2 years, and that a reapplication usually is successful. There is enough product in the 32 ounce bottle for two treatments of a 4 cyl engine. If you have a screw bleeder valve at the thermostat housing, and it has a small leak, that will seal too, so make sure it is tight and closed or put something slippery in the threads to prevent the sodium silicate from crystalizing and adhering there and locking it up.

Do not put this [*] matter in your cooling system unless your car is going to quit forever very soon. In April 2011 I had a number 4 cyclinder misfire problem and used my portable digital scan reader to diagnose the problem. I proceeded to buy and use the Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant for the problem. I followed the directions on the bottle to the letter. One of the directions was to close off the interior heater before starting the car, driving the car, and then allowing car to cool off completely before reopening the heater core, which i did. It was April and the weather turned warm and stayed that way until October. Then was when I discovered that my interior heater would not work. I went back and forth to my mechanic. I replaced the radiator and water pump. Also had several flushes and back flushes done. Finally the mechanic scrubed the cooling system hoses and block. Whiteish gray pebbles came out of this scrub job according to him. Now the heater works OK after spending almost 1K on fixing this problem. In late January 2012 I e-mail the USA Sealant Company explaining the problem, expense, and to be reimbursed. We e-mailed back and forth and talked on the phone once. The final conclusion was that they will not pay any of my expenses. I did get a refund for the bottle at the auto parts store. The clerk there did say that this product would restrict and potentially block portions of your cooling system. Buyer beware this junk.

Comments about Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant:
My '96 I30 had a head gasket that was going bad. It would blow coolant out the top of the radiator when the cap was soft or overflow the reservoir when the radiator cap was on. I can across this product while searching the internet for comparisons on whether to get the head gasket or just a rebuilt engine. For the price, I decided to just give it a try and if it didn't work, oh well...... I bought this product and made sure I followed the manufacture instructions perfectly. I only used a half bottle and the car has been running great for 6 months now. This product works really great. You much give this a try before you spend the money for that head job. Just make sure you follow the instructions and do your research. There are videos of people using this product on youtube as well.

Followed directions to a T. This was a small breach in the headgasket but this stuff did absolutely nothing but add 3 hours labor to the headgasket replacement.

recomended and even thou it was expensive I used
it. I called the manufacture several time to make
sure I understood the instructions. I use the product as directed and the product work great for
about a month, now my intake manifold is leaking again. When I tried contacting the manufacture and filled a claim form. Enclosing my reciet and bar code. That was over 3 weeks ago no one has contacted me back.

Comments about Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant:
Basically when it heats up it over pressurizes the cooling system and becomes an adhesive so after you shut off the motor it spits this adhesive into all of the leaks and seals them as it cools. In my case it started leaking from places that didn't leak before - hopefully it lasts long enough that it didn't just create new leaks in the system. Car still has leaking gasket issues though and still overheating.

Comments about Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant:
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester, which consumer reports rated as a very reliable year when I initially bought the car used. It now has 133,000 miles on it and developed a small head gasket leak. We tried Blue Devil Head Gaasket Sealant for a temporary fix until we had time to take our car to the dealer which is 200 miles away - one way. My husband followed the directions to the letter (he is a bit of a nerd), using the Blue Devil the morning I was going to take a friend down to the big city for a shopping trip, the big city being 200 miles away. We live in a small southern Utah rural community. I got about 25 miles from home and noticed the car was engine was getting kind of hot. I shut off the A/C and continued on for another 5 miles to a place were I could use my cell phone. By the time we got to cell coverage my car engine heat indicator was on the red line. Called my husband, he came and recued us and it took him 3 hours to get home because he kept having to shut down the car to keep from overheating.
Anyway, three thermostats (the first two were covered in blue slime), a new radiator, a cooling system flush and we are still having problems. We took the car to the dealer to have a Subaru thermostat put in, the system flushed again and Subaru radiator conditioning coolant put in the car, got home with no problems (other than a 400 mile round trip for repairs) and the car ran fine for a few days and is back to overheating again.
Blue Devil said they had never heard of any of these problems. I'll just bet! DO NOT use this stuff unless you want to ruin your car!
The only reason it got one star is because the rating won't take no stars.
