I purchased these to replace the shocks on my '02 sebring convertible. No safety hooks came in the box even though the website said it came with them. Immediately, with moderate tension, the washers on the compressor partially broke making it difficult to twist the compressor because they jammed against the compressor. Once they completely broke free, the compressor worked better, however, the washers were there for a reason so I am wondering if I should return them.
One tip is to make 100% sure the compressors are exactly opposite each other on the spring otherwise you create more tension on one side and with all that energy compressed in that spring, it will try to release it in any direction it can. The first time I did this, they were opposite but not exactly opposite. I had to take them both off, reposition them carefully, then repeat the compression.
One nice feature is you can take the bottom hook off the compressor so you can slip the compressor into the strut assembly, then reassemble the compressor. This saves the time of dismantling the strut assembly too.
They are ok for occasionaly home garage use.

Comments about Autocraft Coil Spring Compressor:
If your looking to replace your struts or shocks your self, these are very good for the money, they're very ease to use either wit hand tools or power tools. They work very good. I use it to replace mine on a passat and they work good. If you never use them before you can alwayas contact the store or online, they're very knowledgable about the products they sell. always be safe first since compresing springs can be very dangerous.I did not found anything bad about this product at all. Advance auto parts is the place to shop.

Comments about Autocraft Coil Spring Compressor:
Needs four hands to properly use this - would be better if there were pins to keep the 'hooks' on the spring coil. Awkward if only one person working.

Comments about Autocraft Coil Spring Compressor:
The bolts bent slightly after the first use which made it difficult to use it for the other side. It didn't brake but it was scetchy the whole time.
Comments about Autocraft Coil Spring Compressor:
I bought these to replace struts on a family member's car a while back. They worked great. That time.
Today, while changing the struts on a 00 Caravan, one of the compressors had a thread or two let go when I tried to take it off.
It compressed the spring just fine. Time consuming, but not a lot of effort. Trying to remove it was a challenge though. It only went so far, and locked up like Ft. Knox.
Using the compressor from the other side, I was able to compress the spring enough to get the bad compressor off. Its still locked up, and will go in the scrap bin.
I will buy another set so I have a spare, and because its Saturday, so the shops are closed or they are closing at lunchtime. Otherwise, I'd pay them to swap the strut bearing and spring to the new strut.
I rated them three stars because if you're just going to use them once, they're a good buy. If you use them twice, you may find yourself wishing you had paid a little more money for a better tool - just like I am.

Lockwasher should be replaced with flatwasher. Not realy made for small diameter springs ,infiniti g20, could only get 1 hook on lower portion of spring to catch, would not try this with cast spring compressor, this is heavy guage steel, strong, safe ,great product.

1993 infiniti g20, could only get one hook of the fork to work on the lower portion of spring, imports must be to small of diameter. Durable hardened steel, lockwasher should be replaced with flatwasher.

Comments about Autocraft Coil Spring Compressor:
This tool was one step up from the cheaper models, but did the job safely and efficiently. The lock washer between the drive nut and the jaw doesn't belong there, will break, and should be replaced with a flat washer; no big deal. Good for the do-it-yourself mechanic.
